A funeral with full honors took place Wednesday for an El Paso U.S. Border Patrol agent who died from complications from COVID-19.
Agent Freddie Vasquez, 43, died May 8 after a monthslong hospitalization in what U.S. Customs and Border Protection determined was a death in the line of duty after he contracted the virus while working.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. at San Lorenzo Catholic Church, 611 Avenida De San Lorenzo in Clint. A graveside service followed at 1 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery East, 12400 Montana Ave,
"Today, we will lay to rest our friend and brother, Border Patrol Agent Freddie Vasquez," El Paso Border Patrol Chief Gloria I. Chavez said in a tweet. "We will never forget the impact you have made on our lives, and we will honor your legacy always. We will miss you Freddie. Honor First."
