After list of charges publishes prematurely, accusations fly

ATLANTA — The list of charges sounded eerily authentic: racketeering, conspiracy to commit forgery, conspiracy to commit false statements and writings, filing false statements.

The document, which Reuters reported was briefly posted on the website of the Fulton County clerk’s office, appeared to show 39 separate charges against former president Donald Trump related to his efforts to try to overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 victory in Georgia. And it appeared to closely match the contours of an investigation that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has led for more than two years that has focused on Trump’s false claims of election fraud and his efforts to convene a slate of presidential electors to cast official votes for him — even though Biden had won the state.
