Venerable American guitar company Gibson, whose guitars have been used by the top music industry artists across all genres and styles for decades going back to the very beginning of recorded music, is telling the con artist elect to stop using their iconic Les Paul body design for their overpriced, trump emblazoned Chinese garbage.


Typical trump. Steal the work, art and ideas of other people without bothering with such trivialities as asking permission or paying royalties.

Just goes through life using and screwing over everybody he encounters with no regard whatsoever for anything other than his own self interest.

Exactly the kind of uncivilized, lowlife behavior his idiot rube followers admire and emulate.

I hope Gibson gets an injunction against his Chinese "Chibson" cheap shit guitar company to stop producing and selling them, then sues trump and the distributor hard, long and deep.

Probably can't touch the manufacturer though, because you can bet that despite trump's rhetoric against them, if he's endorsing and selling something, it's almost certainly made in China.

What I think would be hilarious, is if Gibson would secretly produce through another company, some cheap electric guitars maybe using a slightly different body style that wasn't a copy of one of theirs, then slap those cheesey looking MAGA graphics on them....

.... COMPLETE WITH A FAKE TRUMP AUTOGRAPH....

....then flood the market with them at dirt cheap prices while claiming they're authentic.😆

If it is a copy, and there are a lot of them out there, and worse, if many companies make such copies / replicas, then Gibson has nothing coming. In order to protect a trademark or trade secret you have to actively pursue anyone who infringes on it. For example, 3M lost the trademark Xerox because it became a widely used term for any copier.

That Trump also had just 1300 of each model (2) of guitar made, it's likely he's already sold out and it'll be damn hard for Gibson to get anything other than the Trump people to say they'll comply with the cease-and-desist demand and make and sell no more of those. That will only vastly increase the value of the ones already made and sold. It's genius bordering on evil, but it's still genius.

If you watched the video you'd know that Gibson is well known for aggressively going after companies that steal their design.

The ones who get away with are the companies in China.

Which makes it all the more likely that these trump guitars are made in China, which makes trump a trading partner with the Chinese.

I wonder if trump will grant a tariff exclusion to his Chinese guitar partners in crime?

As I added to my earlier post, it looks like Trump is doing a quick turn micro-batch sale of those guitars with the expectation of being hit with a demand letter by Gibson. He has 1300 in two styles made and the production run is over. He sells out within days and all 2600 are shipped quickly right after that.

Gibson hits him with a demand letter to cease and desist. Trump's people say they'll comply and not make any more guitars in that style. The already sold guitars aren't going to get recalled, so Trump gets to keep the sales made, which is all of the guitars he had made. He makes bank, Gibson goes away made but they go away. They aren't going to sue to get him to return all the sold guitars, etc., because that's really expensive and time consuming to do and they don't have the extra cash to just hire a pack of lawyers to do it and take it to trial.

Sure, it's not an ethical way to do business, but it is a way to make a pile of cash on a limited edition that the owners now know will never be copied. That makes the guitars rare and valuable. The owners want to keep them for that reason. Trump makes a pile of cash. Gibson goes away mad, but they go away. Trump can't make more guitars which he very likely didn't plan on doing in any case.

All they needed to do was move a tone or volume control knob. Change any of the outside dimensions slightly. Lots of ways to get out of it.

No, I prevented a radical Leftist from gaining power. That was my intent. Harris was far, far, more dangerous to the stability and freedom of the US than Trump will ever be.

As for the guitars, I could give a shit one way or the other. Trump, in this case, saw a way to make some fast, big bucks. I don't give a shit about that.
