Well I guess it is 'Say goodnight, Mitt,' time. I was going to say that he is already history but I very much doubt that he will get a mention in any serious history text.
The easiest win that any incumbent has ever had. No further need for Obama to play to the cameras or the press. No need, even, for the election at all. Simply pass a law allowing the present government to continue unopposed. Save the ridiculous amounts of money involved and continue trying to make America a better place.

But what can you expect? Your elections are always bass ackwards. No manifestos, no policies until some privately owned research organisation tells the candidates what to think.
How can there be any honesty? How can there be any passion? How can there be any committment? How can you even have opposing candidates when each feels it necessary to spew the polling results regardless of his or her own beliefs.

It ain't over till the fat lady sings, plenty of time for some disaster to occur.

Pretty niave point of view Lo. It's this way virtually everywhere there's a democratic process. It's the ugly part of electioneering and it goes back to the days of the Roman Republic in western civilization.

Not really.
In the UK a man enters politics after several years working for the community in one way or another. Usually his EXISTING politics are well known. He is chosen by his local party committee BECAUSE of the views he holds and the work he has done. He does not make up his opinions after seeing polls.
Yes, of course there are exceptions and in days gone by when the aristocracy ruled it was not so.
The proposed MP announces his beliefs and if the local party committee agree then he is chosen to represent that constiuency even though there may not be an election looming. Prior to an election each party publishes their manifesto and is elected, or not, based upon that, they are then held to account by the electorate and, because we have what is known as 'Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition' they are repeatedly questioned and held to account on the contents of the manifesto. Now you can run off and find any number of cases where that is not the case, but that is really how it works.
Generally speaking we do not know, nor are we interested in a man's religion - that is up to him. We do not get involved in the rather stupid name calling and finger pointing about gays or abortions or who is employed where. We vote for our constituency and our country and often we do not know who the prime minister will be. We vote on policies and past performances and often who is the least stupid. (Exception: The Monster Raving Loony Party of years gone by)
