"Go, Francis, and repair my house, which as you see is falling into ruin." - Jesus to St. Francis of Asissi.

So this guy is elected Pope and names himself Francis I. Clearly a nod to the ruinous state of the Church and a signal that he will be trying to repair it.

Is he going to stick with the doctrine he has espoused until now? Will he budge on the factors that are causing the Church to remain in ruin?

I have always liked what I know about the Origional St. Francis, I hope this Pope will live up to his name, but I doubt it.

Lets see.........

he has lived a humble exsistance that is in line with jesus' teachings .

I sure hope he loves the poor as much as it seems he does.

If the church took a huge chunk of its money and helped the poor and STOPPED using the poor for entertainment then they could turn this all arround

It might depend on which St. Francis he has named himself after. Was it St. Francis Xavier, the Jesuit...'Give me a child til he is seven and I'll give you the man' or St. Francis of Assisi who fed birds (and he did other stuff so they say)
Frankly .... I don't care

It is St. Frances Xavier.

Good for her.

Francis Xavier, born Francisco de Jasso y Azpilicueta (7 April 1506 – 3 December 1552) was a Roman Catholic missionary born in the Kingdom of Navarre (now part of Spain) and co-founder of the Society of Jesus. He was a student of Ignatius of Loyola and one of the first seven Jesuits, dedicated at Montmartre in 1534.

Born in the Castle of Xavier near Sanguesa, in Navarre, 7 April, 1506; died on the Island of Sancian near the coast of China, 2 December, 1552. In 1525, having completed a preliminary course of studies in his own country, Francis Xavier went to Paris, where he entered the collège de Sainte-Barbe. (Catholic Encyclopedia)
