GORDON Brown last night praised George Bush for leading the global war on terror — saying the world owed America a huge debt.

The Prime Minister vowed to take Winston Churchill’s lead and make Britain’s ties with America even stronger.

Mr Brown stunned critics by THANKING President Bush for the fight against Islamic extremism, and insisted the UK-US relationship will be his No1 foreign policy priority.

He said on his first visit to the President’s US retreat at Camp David: “Winston Churchill spoke of the ‘joint inheritance’ of our two countries.”

The PM said that meant “a joint inheritance not just of shared history but shared values founded on a shared destiny”.

I think 'the terrorists' fail to understand the West, just as much as we fail to understand them. The attempted attacks on UK following Gordon's becoming PM, put him more in the position of 'war' PM, than he would have been.

The same could be said of GW. While it was so long ago, most have forgotten or failed to realize just how domestically focused, nay even isolationalist he was in the first months in office. Since then of course, he's been painted as rushing of to Iraq, to revenge threats and disparagements of his father, but that really has never held up.

I think they got lucky in Spain, the attacks during the election week, not after.

Gentlemen, you have spilled blood on our behalf and so i think it appropriate recompense that the humble Briton send each American family a black pudding, or blood sausage as you quaintly dub the delicacy, in a show of biblical-style reciprocity.

With any luck, our gift will be manufactured from the actual blood of despatched terrorists, Communists and cowardly Europeans.

Let the debt be paid and the feasting begin.

No French commies, they taste bad and we have to rename them causing much riducule and confustication.

Gee...thanks.

Actually, I was never for giving you this great "gift". So maybe just send my portion of the blood pudding to SF or Runyon or BB, ok?

Thanks!

I can't promise anything, but i shall endeavour to make sure the State of Colorado receives only fresh Lebanese terrorist black pudding. They're infused with cedar and i can heartily recommend them.

As you wish.

Some may take umbrage but, alas, it is not the first time a lady has turned her nose up the offer of my sausage.

I think we can chalk this up as a new Prime Minister on his first visit to the United States being polite to his presidential host.

I think, if I'm not mistaken, that the UK Sun is a Bush worshipping Murdoch publication. I was suspicious.

So I went to the actual transcript of the news conference.

Unless my word search tool isn't working, the word "Debt" doesn't appear anywhere in the transcript. I presume that the Sun interprets Browns sentiments, but Brown never said anything about a debt.

The only time the word "thanks" even shows up in the transcript, is where Brown "thanks" Bush for his hospitality, and in other polite references to social protocol.

I think the Sun made this shit up. From reading the transcript, it seems like your standard "we'll stand beside you in the fight against terrorists" jargon. Standard diplomatic protocol from an Allied leader visiting the US.

I don't see any of the Bush worship, that the UK Sun alleges.
