It seems that the great American intellectuals are dying off, Mailer, Hitchens (naturalised), Buckley now joined by Gore Vidal. I was watching the BBC last night and they had Erica Jong on explaining how she had been a long time friend of his and how she engineered a dinner party with Gore Vidal, Norman Mailer, Susan Sontag and herself. That must of been some dinner party!!

Oh we still have great intellectuals. It's just there's more money to be made pandering to morons using gobelesque right wing propaganda. Media has changed and TV is not the place for informed discussion any more. The internet is far superior to TV as your'e not a captive audience. The down side of the net though is the tendency to hear only what you want to hear and to end up developing a tin ear instead of an open mind.

Gore Vidal, arguably the first leftist to call Conservatives 'Nazi's' was a liberal flame thrower, and not of much use in anything that could be termed intellectual, probably was very versed in propaganda though.
