'The government can't do anything right' - so Trump thinks paying those workers less will get better results. That never got good results in the private sector, but somehow he seems to think it will in the government sector?
Who in their right mind expects lower paid workers to perform better than higher paid ones? That makes no sense.
President Trump recently announced he is reversing an already existing plan to improve income for federal workers. He said they don't deserve a pay raise because the government is strapped for cash, even though the economy is doing well. This follows his disastrous tax cut for the rich and for big corporations, which drastically cut federal tax revenue.
Trump wants government workers to take the hit so the rich can have more riches.
If the current tax rates do not support the government and it's workers during a good economy, how can the tax rates possibly support the government during a recession? And how is the government supposed to ever pay down the debt? This is an irresponsible plan.
The CBO released a report last year which shows that professional government workers already earn less than their private sector counterparts.
Republicans routinely criticize the government for not being able to function well. It is unclear how government workers are to be expected to perform better by being paid less. If you want good outcomes from good workers, you have to pay them well. If you don't pay enough it should be no surprise when performance is lacking
