Grampa Fred to Drop Out

that had to be the laziest, most uninspiring campaign in modern history.

lol. And I still fondly recall the "wise men" of the DC punditry and cocktail circuit class fawning over Thompson, and wondering what his aftershave smelled like.

Pathetic. Shows how out of touch the DC cocktail circuit crowd is. I knew Grandpa was going to be lazy, out of touch, and uninspiring 10 months ago.

I don't see anyone making him vp, but maybe. He had that lazy tag early and he proved it with this campaign. I can't see him being of any value as VP.

Right. Grandpa not only looks lazy and inept now. He looks like a total loser, who didn't live up to the hype.

He's radioactive. No one wants him as VP

Id love to see Mary Matlin, James Carval's husband, opine on how she was so pittafully wrong when she was promoting him on Meet the Press several months ago. He was going to save the republican with his Reganesq personality.

He's also got some baggage with his trophy wife and being "Hollywood." I don't see it playing that well with traditionalists/social conservatives. If he endorses McCain, then McCain is the only one that will offer VP and I do not see how he broadens McCain's support by bringing a different demographic.

Yeah, McCain's already got old white guy with cancer vote on lockdown.

Wow. Talk about all noise and no fury. This guy was talked up as the next Reagan. I even bought it myself. Not that I think being the next Reagan is a compliment. But I thought he’d be very formidable.

Yep. I remember he was losing campaign staffers after like a couple of weeks of him running. The media built him up but there's nothing there. I wouldn't be surprised if he endorses someone like McCain or maybe even Guiliani. I think he'll probably drop out sooner after the Iowa cacuses tonite. I watched "Law and Order" last night and it was nice to not have him on there. Blah! So something good came from him "running for president."

His wife is smarter than he is. I saw her on FOX last night.

I think she may have tried to push him to run in the first place.

Fred says he's not going anywhere.

That's what I've seen too:

Yep, and with style. Links to the original post of Politico and others:

FRED THOMPSON RESPONDS TO The Politico:

GOP presidential hopeful Fred Thompson said in an in-studio interview with KCCI-TV in Des Moines that there is no truth to rumors that his campaign will fold before New Hampshire if he doesn’t have a strong showing in Iowa.

“That is absolutely made up out of whole cloth,” said the former U.S. Senator from Tennessee.

Thompson said a rival campaign was likely the source of that rumor.

“Can you imagine such a thing in politics?” he asked.

Thompson is sly, wry and dry. He dares to mock and sneer at the absurd posturing and pretending that constitutes modern political campaigning which has become nothing more than spin and illusion, void of authenticity and substance. I don’t know if I am ready to say “he’s my guy.” I think it’s too soon to say that about anyone.

But I do note that Mr. Thompson is fast to correct the media when they blather-at-will about him; that’s certainly refreshing. And I note that he and Giuliani seem to be the only folks on the GOP side who make the other side squirm, which tells me they are perceived to be the only candidates who can give them real competition. And frankly, just watching Huckabee and Romney these past weeks, I’m inclined to agree - I don’t think anyone else from the GOP-side can overcome the Democrats and their friendly press. Romney still strikes me as too-groomed by half, and Huckabee as too slickly cynical; both ooze something I just don’t like.
