The Education Department on Tuesday levied a $37.7 million fine against Grand Canyon University after an investigation found it misled more than 7,500 former and current students about the cost of its doctoral programs.

As far back as 2017, GCU advertised that its doctoral programs cost between $40,000 and $49,000, but investigators in the enforcement unit of the Federal Student Aid office found that fewer than 2 percent of GCU graduates actually paid that amount. A majority of students in those programs were made to take courses at an added cost to meet their dissertation requirements, increasing their tuition by as much as $12,000, the department said.

Too bad places like Harvard and the rest are allowed to get away with it.

A private, for-profit university. Not surprising they would put profit over educational excellence.

I never thought putting capitalism in charge of education was neccessarily a good mix.
