Which culture, society, or civilization from any time in history do you consider the best in the history of the world?

What made them the greatest?

Hammurabi's Code, philosophy, democracy and systems of government that we use today. Oh and let's not forget about the Hanging Garden. One of the wonders of the world.

Also Europe during the Renaissance because of new ideas and arts.

It's a trick question right? We're supposed to believe all cultures are equal, or else we're ethnocentric or racist, so the narrative goes.

The United States in the 50s-60s. Maybe not too eclectic and decadent, but still the best.
Ofc I am prejudiced because I'm American.

Would you enjoy living in Hammurabi's time? I dont think I'd want to be around in times of slavery...

Not a trick question.

For me personally, I believe the best society of all time was the result of western civilization in the usa around the turn of the millennium.

I'd say the first three years of President Trump's presidency, and the society and culture of America during these years would be pretty hard to beat. Then of course, the hideous bio-weapon, COVID-19, was unleashed upon us and the rest of the world by the Chinese.

For its time, Rome. It interconnected the world like never before. It raised the standard of living for most of its members (citizenship was not automatic) considerably over what had gone previously. It created new technologies like concrete and produced sufficient written records that most of that wasn't lost with the empire's demise (we still use the Julian calendar for example). Rome produced infrastructure that in some cases is still used today.

China produced several great empires but none of them ever exported any of it to other places the way Rome did.

Don't forget about the aqueducts! They were a wonder in itself. Clean flowing water.
