I was just reminded via a Tik Tok clip that United States Concealed Carry laws are alive and kicking.
Kind of scary to know that during the age of Cheeto Jeezus you'll have yahoos like those that permeate this site being able to enter various states with a concealed weapon even though they are not a resident.
Now the knee jerk defense for such is that "criminals will always get guns, while the law abiding citizen is denied such". That is an OLD, DEBUNKED LIE. To date, any law abiding citizen can obtain a weapon providing they meet registration criteria for their state and basic on site purchase requirements.
And while you have the occasional incidence where armed citizens have saved the day from criminals, you also have the occasional incidence where cops arriving on an active crime scene almost shoot the wrong armed man,
And then of course one must remember that what, 95% of our mass shooters in the last 30 years where WITHOUT CRIMINAL RECORDS AND OBTAINED THEIR WEAPONS LEGALLY.
So forgive me if I'm not overwhelmed with a sense of security about this.
Decades ago, my grandmother said to me that black folk should buy as many guns as legally possible, because "when white folk finally get enough nerve, they're going to try and bring back slavery and kill anyone who won't go along".
But I don't recall hearing any NRA speeches about black civil rights regarding gun ownership ... much less coming to defense of such folks as John White of Long Island, NY about 15 years ago.
But hey, more guns in the mix should solve many problems, right?
