H.R. 4953 a supposed tax reform bill

 Things like this make me so mad…but it’s politics as usual.

Years ago I was working with a state representative from our district…a democrat. He showed me a measure dealing with keeping gays from adopting that he was going to vote against. Remember it was a measure not a bill. He was no more for allowing queers to adopt than I was, but attached to that measure was a rider (somehow attached by the liberal Democrats) restricting gun ownership. He couldn’t very well vote for that either. By voting against the measure he would be on record in the house journal of voting against something that would prohibit gays from adopting, which is a losing stance in our state no matter your party. If that was used in a campaign against him who is going to check and see why he actually voted against that measure?

It has been made somewhat better here. Attaching riders has become more difficult. But it is still a political game to either kill legislation or to get your opponent on record voting against or for something not politically expedient for him.
