Hard Times

As I said the other day, my liberal friends all seem resigned to the fact that we have 'hard times' ahead, even with an Obama win. I thought Obama was going to be the ultimate answer to all our problems, and we just needed to oust the mean old republicans, to realize Liberal Utopia, but apparently this is not what they think is going to happen now. I was quite disappointed in hearing this, because I just assumed everything would be lovely, with The Messiah Obama poised to win the White House, and the Liberal Democrats set to win a super-majority in Congress.

I really have my doubts as to whether the average American even comprehends "hard times" or knows what to expect. For nearly 8 years, we have heard how bad the economy is, and I was shocked to hear for the first time yesterday, from a Fed, that we "appear to be in a recession!" I thought we had been in this "recession" for most of Bush's presidency, and it was solely his fault, but apparently not, we are just now "appearing" to be in one.

Now, a recession is bad, for sure... but, it's not really 'hard times.' Far from it. When we have been in a recession for a while, we will ultimately have a 'depression' and that is when things will start to become 'hard times' for us. At first, a 'depression' won't feel much different than a 'recession' it will seem like nothing more than a cosmetic name change, no real differentiation will be realized. As things get markedly worse, you will start to see less and less kids hanging out at the malls, texting their friends on their blackberries, going to see the latest Oliver Stone propaganda flick, and blogging at Starbucks on their wi-fi laptops. Mostly because these businesses will fade away, as 'luxury' spending vanishes completely.

Obama's economic plans will be firmly in place by then, so we can expect staggering inflation on anything not a necessity of life, those things, I suppose, will be subject to price freezes, and difficult to find.... probably rationed. We won't have to worry about SUV's, no one will be able to afford to drive one, even though gas prices will be relatively low. The biggest concern will be jobs. Because of the Obama tax increases on business, there will be fewer jobs and little or no growth in business. In fact, we will be in a deep job deficit by this time, as people literally beg for work. Go to Google and look up "The Great Depression" and read about how we had "hard times" to get an idea of what lies ahead.

I was raised on a farm, and my parents instilled values in us children that will remain with us the rest of our lives. We know how to work the fields and grow our own food, we know how to survive when 'times are hard' because our parents knew, and they taught us how to do it. I don't worry so much about me and my family, I know we can get through pretty much any 'hard times' ahead, but I am concerned about the liberal mush-brains out there, who have no clue of how to fend for themselves. What will they do? How will they make it through? As it stands now, we have a Big Fat Government who will come to their aid and bail them out, take care of their every need, wipe their asses and send them a monthly check. But when 'hard times' hit, they simply won't have the resources to do this anymore, and at some point, they will have to pull the teat away, and let these people figure it out on their own. In that regard, I think the impending 'hard times' might be a good thing for our society, it might just be the medicine we need to shake people back into reality, into understanding that we ultimately have to take responsibility for ourselves, and not depend on the government to take care of us.

Don't worry about this liberal mush-brain, Dix. I plan on hitting the wasteland in my interceptor, in search of Thunderdome...

Okay Mel, but that's further on down the road, after our enemies attack us in our weakened state, and eliminate our entire government infrastructure. I'd say maybe 20 or 30 more years, if we are lucky. By then, you'll be too old to worry about it much, if you've managed to survive that long... I honestly think retards like yourself will die off a few months into a depression, probably from starvation or lack of shelter. Do you like the taste of dog?
