Having SUFFICIENT Money Determines Whether You Survive? WHY!

It's very simple. In this capitalist society, access to food, shelter and clothing are not treated as rights. They are treated as privileges under the condition you have enough money to afford it. Many will contend this is reflective on whether you work. WRONG! There are people who do not work who can afford food, shelter and clothing for the rest of their lives. There are people who work who can not afford these vital material resources. This is one of a multitude of reasons why commodifying all material resources necessary for survival is immoral.

How do control 'Overbreeding'?
At some point, the Planet will not be able to sustain Life ... well, Human Life.

"Human population, now nearing 8 billion, cannot continue to grow indefinitely. There are limits to the life-sustaining resources earth can provide us. In other words, there is a carrying capacity for human life on our planet."

Hello and welcome hdphotolover,

Before I comment, I'd like to acquaint you with my approach at this site. As you have hopefully seen, this is a rough site where trolling and abuse are not prevented. If you want that stuff filtered out you have to do that yourself, so I do. I actually come here to conduct polite conversations as I don't spend 24-7 here (like some.) I just want the more academic discussions for what time I do spend here. I normally put abusive posters on Ignore and simply skip their posts.

If you would like to conduct polite conversations, I'd be totally into that.

Personal Ignore Policy PIP: I like civil discourse. I will give you all the respect in the world if you respect me. Mouth off to me, or express overt racism, you will be PERMANENTLY Ignore Listed. Zero tolerance. No exceptions. I'll never read a word you write, even if quoted by another, nor respond to you, nor participate in your threads. ... Ignore the shallow. Cherish the thoughtful. Long Live Civil Discourse, Mutual Respect, and Good Debate! ps: Feel free to adopt my PIP. It works well.

If that's agreeable to you then I hope we have many great discussions. If not, we probably won't be talking long.

OK, nuff said about that.

So what did you have in mind to replace capitalism with?

I think what's best is a mixture of capitalism and socialism. We need a powerful government that can adequately regulate capitalism far more than we currently do. We need to get the big money out of government, and we need to tax the rich and the corporations more to pay for a larger social services system, socialized healthcare, and perhaps a UBI.

But I don't wanna kill capitalism. We need to let people chase big riches if they want to. We just need to have enough government regulation involved so that we end this crazy quest for ever more extreme wealth inequality. It's embarrassing, really. We have so many people in the USA who just don't give a you know what about anything but the material, and gawdy displays of wealth.

We need a better education system that teaches young people to care about others and be civic minded.

There is so much we can do to make America greater, but it needs to be truly in a positive direction.

We need so many new laws. It's fine to chase wealth, but to destroy other's in the process is not helpful.

We need win/win capitalism, not win/lose capitalism.

Capitalism is a wild monster that needs to be properly controlled and regulated to get the most out of it.

Otherwise it can be very destructive.

So, you have an automatic "right" to food, shelter, and clothing regardless of how little effort you put forward, and society owes you these things even if all you want to do all day is sit on the couch and play video games or something? Yea, sure. The reason these things have to be earned is they don't make themselves. Somebody has to grow that food and then move it to where it will be consumed. Somebody has to make that shelter. Somebody has to make the materials that go into that shelter. Same with clothes.

If you don't want to put in any effort to contribute to society in a productive and material way then you don't deserve anything. Sure, there are exceptions to that where someone is living off the largess of others like some trust fund baby or something, but even there they are consuming the wealth created through work by someone else who gave to them voluntarily.

There is no, and should be no, requirement on my part that I give you those things for free out of forced altruism by government. You want food, shelter, and clothing? Get a damn job, be productive, and gain some wealth to buy them with.

I'm not far from the end at this point, and neither of my kids chose to have kids of their own.
Things are too fucked up to make that kind of commitment, I would fully concur.

I wish I knew the purpose for my concerns.

Survival was never guaranteed to anybody, and was purposely made to be a brutal challenge for the working class.

I've always been active caring about this, so maybe, at this point, it's more habit than necessity for me.
