Leave the respective settings and formats in place. Have BOTH candidates appear via satellite. The moderator will have a "mute" button to prevent another "yapfest". Problem solved.
 
It is a town hall format. That makes it tough. They can put them 20 feet apart and keep a stun gun pointed at Trump.
