How many jobs are we adding per month now? (Using the same measurement we used when the President was inagurated.)

What is the DOW today?

What are interest rates today?

What is the current state of the economy compared to the day the Presidnet was inagurated?

Let's see Jarod this is the slowest economic recovery since WWII but in your book that is a good thing. The number of jobs we are adding each month is nowhere close to what is needed to make any significant dent in the unemployment rate. But keep on raising your partisan poms poms.

What was the unemployment rate when Obama took office?
What was the labor participation rate when Obama took office?
What was the number of people on food stamps when Obama took office?
What was the status of GITMO when Obama took office?
How many US ambassadors were killed in the four years prior to Obama taking office?
How many consecutive months was the unemployment rate over 8% prior to Obama taking office?
What was the nations debt when Obama took office?
What was the average deficit in the eight years prior to Obama taking office?

What is the unemployment rate today?
What is the labor participation rate today?
What is the number of people on food stamps today?
What is the status of GITMO today?
How many US Ambassadors have been killed under Obama's watch?
How many consecutive months has the unemployment rate been above 8% since Obama took office?
What is the nations total debt since Obama took office?
What has been the average deficit spending per year since Obama took office?

So, you dont want to answer my questions? I understand.

So, Cawacko, which Republican policy do you think would speed up recovery? Everyone is so critical of what has been done, but what do you see as a faster way to recovery?

What has Romney offered that would bring about a faster recovery?

Bogus question. Faulty premise. Go back to the drawing board and try again

The biggest thing I see is doing something with the tax code. Short-term tax breaks are nice and all but ultimately do very little. Extending the Bush tax cuts a year at a time because Congress and the President want to put off dealing with it does not help the economy. Lock in the tax rates so businesses are able to plan more than a year at a time going forward. There's a reason major corporations are sitting on a couple of trillion dollars in cash and that's with so much uncertainty it makes it harder to plan.

After that I would relook at our regulations. By that I don't mean eliminate all regulations but to look at which ones are effective and which ones are doing more harm. A big one is Dodd-Frank. It did not stop banks from becoming too big to fail but it has put ownerous regulations on small banks which is severly hurting their competitiveness. That needs to be fixed.

Those are the two areas imo that need to be addressed by Congress and the President (whoever it is).

And why don't people understand that running a company where you're only beholden to shareholders isn't anything like running a country?

It is why big banks supported Dodd Frank. They knew that the smaller banks would have trouble with the added costs which makes them ripe for a merger/acquisition. This has been going on in all sorts of businesses for years.

Scrap the entire tax code. Repeal 16th Amendment and implement national sales tax of 10%. You will see this economy do things that are unparalleled in human history. Sure H&R Block would be out of business but so what. They are misallocated resources to begin with

So in other words no one has the necessary experience to run a country except for a person who has run a country?

No. But having a business background IMO doesn't give a person more experience. Look at all the presidents who were in business, they were mediocre presidents at best.

Frankly I don't know what the X factor is that makes a good president. Every candidate goes in confident that he's going to make a change, then four or eight years later leaves the office gray-haired and worn out because most accomplishments come at glacial speed.

What experience would you like then? What criteria would you like a candidate to have?

Romney started a company from scratch then went on to become massively successful. That's different than any of the past Presidents to my knowledge. And the man was Governor of a state. We've had many previous successful Presidents who were Governors of states.

I honestly don't think anything gives you the experience to be President, except maybe having been President. I think you just have to be very intelligent and know how to compromise. Being a quick study also helps.

I don't know, and edited my post to say that. Rana had some good points that I agree with.

How successful was Rmoney as governor? He didn't create good jobs and didn't end up with high approval ratings. I believe Jimmy Carter was a successful businessman although not on Rmoney's scale, but most people think he flopped as prez.
