I would add the young Vietnamese girl burned by Napalm and the flag raising on Iwo Jima.

We are on the same wavelength. I thought of both of those too.
I hesitate to post the one of the girl, because she is naked and the photo is disturbing.
Since the Iwo Jima photo was totally staged, and really a war propaganda photo of sorts, I debated whether to include it. My same thoughts on the WW2 photo of the meeting at the River Elbe. But I should add Iwo Jima, it is certainly more than meets the definition of iconic.

And I do not think history would forgive us if we neglected to add the situation room photo of the night Obama issued the kill order on Osama Bin Laden - after 8 long years of Bush failure to get him.

I gotta admit...machine gunner Dukkakis was memorable...and just bloody funny!
Meeting at the River Elbe is a favorite of mine.

One of the most electrifying sights I have ever seen was the night the Berlin Wall fell.
History would not forgive us either if we neglected an iconic photo of Amelia Earhart.

Hubble Deep Field image - yep those are galaxies, not stars

Probably the most important photograph of the last 30 years.

I'll never forget this one. Opened the morning paper and there it was on the front page. The photographer won a Pulitizer.
