Holyrollers attack harry potter

WAKEFIELD, Massachusetts — St. Joseph's School in Wakefield, Mass., has banned a series of Harry Potter books from its library, saying themes of witchcraft are inappropriate for a Catholic school, the Boston Globe reported.

The decision to remove the books from the elementary school's library has sparked controversy among students, educators, and parents — many of whom are unhappy with the ban.

The Rev. Ron Barker, pastor of St. Joseph's, told parents it was his job to "protect the weak and the strong."

and this is in Liberal dem massachusetts....

The rollers are rarely more ridiculous than when they go after Harry Potter, a series of books that has changed the way an entire generation reads.

If they'd read the books, they'd see there are actually a few Christian allegories & themes, as well, and it's not about kids practicing black magic.

Holy Rollers believe that it is an introduction of magic into their lives that itself is bad, to get children thinking that magic is okay, that it can be "good". The church I grew up in also had problems with Star Wars and "The Force" as well as many other books of that nature. Much like the Lord of the Rings trilogy and other fantasy books.

The reality is they aren't going after "Harry Potter" and it is one of the things I have found consistent in many christian teachings, here a catholic church appears to be doing the same thing the Holy Roller church I grew up in would....

It's a Catholic school, and therefore, they have the right to do such things. it is up to those who patronize said institution to decide whether they want to do something about said practices.

It's really no one's business but the school and those who buy its services (except to mock their silly behavior, as it appears the author of the thread is doing).

LOL - I love the irony!

Hollyrollers believe in talking snakes in the garden of eden, dudes who live in the belly of whales, and that they will be magically lifted up into the air, up to the heavens during the rapture.

However, all of that is done by beings that are not human. The power for those things to be done extends from God, not from the human. Thus the differences between magic and miracles.

The Bible speaks of magic in real terms, but it is taught to be inherently bad whatever form it takes. It speaks against prophesy from any other source than God, it speaks against "magic" in any other form than from that same source.

As I said, it is very consistent. The human is not to have such power, clearly God is Jealous of His power.

Strange that christians apparently believe in magic too....

then there is the 1/3 or so that believe in ghosts and goblins.

The Bible teaches that magic is real, and that it is evil. Why would it be a surprise that they would believe it? It's like saying, "Ha! They believe in Satan!" Well duh.. Of course they believe in Satan.

And the ghost thing... Part of God is a Ghost. Believing in spirits is all part of that Christian thing too. They cast them out, they invite one in, they believe that they will be one when the body becomes dust.

I just believe I will be dust....
It makes this life more precious.

the catholic schools get a little crazy. believe me i went to east catholic in CT.

They should also ban star wars then since its basically the same thing.

Regardless its a private school and they can do what they decide.

Yep one reason why I am against vouchers for private schools.

Yeah, they need to be reading about how Jesus turned water into wine, Moses parted the Red Sea and God turned Lott's wife into a pillar of salt, not about hocus pocus magic tricks.

I see hollyrollers use "magic" all the time.

Ever seen those televangelists who "cure" people of cancer and other ailments during services?
Again, you are deliberately misstating. ;) The power to heal is God's they simply ask God to perform the healing. If it is from God then it is a miracle, if it from another source it is "magic" and it is "evil". The Preacher doesn't perform magic, he simply implores God to heal them.
