So, basically, he's going to jail longer than the people who burglarized him. That's an impressive list of felonies - apparently having pot and a gun in your home at the same time is "possessing a gun in the commission of a felony". The apparent victim of a home invasion in Ogletown was arrested after police allegedly found over a pound of marijuana, packaging materials and a gun in his home.
Jonathon Mead, 18, of the 500 block of Oakdale Road, was arrested on charges of possession with the intent to deliver marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, maintaining a dwelling for keeping a controlled substance, endangering the welfare of a child, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
New Castle County police were originally called to Mead’s home in the Salem Village Apartments at 1:32 a.m. on Monday to investigate an alleged home invasion there, agency spokesman Cpl. Trinidad Navarro said.
Police said Mead told them that three gunmen kicked in his front door and attempted to rob him before fleeing.
“While speaking to the victim, officers discovered he had 29 grams of marijuana inside his front pocket,” Navarro said.
Officers obtained a search warrant for the home and found more than a pound of marijuana inside as well as a digital scale, packaging materials and a .22 caliber handgun.
Mead was arraigned and released after posting $36,000 secured bail.
The home invasion remains under investigation. People can offer information by contacting police at 395-8171 or visiting their Web site at www.nccpd.com. Anonymous tips can also be made by calling Crimestoppers at (800) TIP-3333.
