The term “house slave” — often rendered as “house (n-word)” or “house negro” — is used as a way to denigrate Black people as compliant or worse with white supremacy. Malcolm X described what he saw as the differences between the “field negro” and the “house negro” in a famous speech in which he also referred to the latter as “Uncle Tom.”
