How Britain poached Russian fish and chips

Pro-Kremlin politician Andrei Isayev, speaking of the “two-headed dragon” – US and UK – said on Russian state TV: “They’re basically Siamese twins, but Britain has historically been more evil because it has responsibility for Europe.”

He warned that Britain and Poland were “seriously discussing the possibility of a direct military clash” with Russia over the special operation in Ukraine.

“Even in those moments when it acted as our ally during the world wars, the Englishwoman [sic] managed to create trouble. But now she’s simply thrown off all her disguises.”

He continued: “Clear off back to your island! Eat your porridge! Catch your chip and fish [sic] from your foggy marshes!”

The state TV host, Yevgeny Popov, intervened to say that the British culinary dish was in fact a Russian invention. “It turns out that fish and chips are Russian,” he claimed

Mr Isayev concurred, rounding off with: “And pray for your moss covered queen!”

Historical note
Russia unilaterally quit WWI early in 1918 after the Bolsheviks took power. In WWII the Soviet Union was a Nazi ally, collaborating in the partition of Poland and grabbing the Baltic states – until Hitler invaded in June 1941. After that they were on the same side as the “two-headed dragon”.

Oh yes, fish and chip shops first appeared in England in the mid 19th century. At that time most Russians were serfs. Did they invent fish and chips? :dunno:
