Especially in somewhere like California, it would be cheaper to find a woman you hate and buy her a house.
I know a doctor who is socially backward. He does research so he does not have to deal with patients and cannot keep a girlfriend. He bought a house for the last one and she eventually dumped him and moved in her boyfriend. The doctor now goes by and has dinner with them periodically.
