How to denazify, Putin-style

Task force Rusich, recruited from far rightists in Moscow and St Petersburg, has been deployed in Ukraine.

Rusich was founded in 2014 by Alexei Milchakov, a neo-Nazi, and Yan Petrovsky, a self-styled Russian nationalist and patriot. The unit operated in the “People’s Republics” of Donbas, where it gained a reputation for brutality.

Putin’s government had previously wavered between co-opting and cracking down on the far right, which it saw as a potentially dangerous rival for power. But when conflict broke out in eastern Ukraine in 2014, the Kremlin had no qualms about allowing neo-Nazis to raise combat units.

Rusich has been investigated for war crimes by the International Criminal Court, and Michalkov and Petrovsky have both been charged with terrorism in Ukraine.

I read that there are about 4000 Nazis in Ukraine. They are powerless and outside mainstreet politics. They are noisemakers who scare themselves like ours in Charlottesville. Putin's decision to kill everyone in Ukraine and destroy its cities and the people's lives makes perfect sense to the right.
Putin is as brutal and authoritarian as any Nazi.
