Hurricane forecasters watching a new area in the Atlantic

We fight, We win
The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season is keeping forecasters on their toes -- and it hasn’t even officially started yet.

The National Hurricane Center on Thursday evening added a new area to watch to the board in the Atlantic.

It is the third such system that has attracted the hurricane center’s interest before the official start of the season on June 1.

On Thursday evening the newest disturbance was located in the central Atlantic several hundred miles east-southeast of Bermuda.

But that’s not all. Forecasters may have to turn their attention closer to home next week.

Long-range models continue to hint that a tropical system could organize in the Gulf of Mexico or Caribbean sometime next week.

NOAA released its Atlantic hurricane season outlook last week and is predicting a busy season, with 13-19 named storms, 6-10 hurricanes and 3-6 major hurricanes (Category 3 or stronger storms).
