I went in to the hive today to add a refilled feeding can and to check on progress. The bees were much calmer and I was able to work much easier. They now have brood to care for and seem far more contented.
They are working hard to raise new brood, there is no way I'm getting a honey crop from this hive this year, but that's okay. I need many new bees for them to survive the winter, and she's laid hundreds.... by the time fall rolls around there should be enough....
Next time I go into the hive I'll get my wife or my eldest (the adopted one ) to take some pictures of the bees.
My middle child wants to begin a new 4H project here based on the one in California on beekeeping as CO currently doesn't have that in 4H. I'll be getting her a new bee suit next year and begin teaching her how to work hives.
