Ordered to pay $5M in damages.

The total damages are only $5M *so far*.

The jury still needs to decide on the *punitive damages* portion. Expect this number to go up. Will keep you all updated.

Young is a U.S. Navy veteran who helped evacuate Afghan citizens during Bungling Biden's disastrous withdrawal from Kabul. He was featured in a segment on CNN's The Lead with Jake Tapper on November 11, 2021.

Young accused the fake news network of defamation and libel.

The trial began on January 7 with opening statements. Young was the first to testify. Messages between him and CNN senior reporter Katie Bo Lillis were shown during the testimony, including one where he told her to "make sure you have your facts aligned before taking a few text messages and running with it."

"It's almost like I had a crystal ball, and I hadn't seen the article or the video yet, but that's exactly what she was doing," Young said.

The trial will now enter the second phase, where the jury will decide if Young should be awarded more money for punitive damages.

Young was originally seeking $1 billion in his lawsuit.
