...how can any American conservatives still be okay with Trump or his enablers? If George Will can see through this abomination, how in the world can there still be people supporting this man who will undoubtedly go down in history as the worst president ever.

This unraveling presidency began with the Crybaby-in-Chief banging his spoon on his highchair tray to protest a photograph — a photograph — showing that his inauguration crowd the day before had been smaller than the one four years previous. Since then, this weak person’s idea of a strong person, this chest-pounding advertisement of his own gnawing insecurities, this low-rent Lear raging on his Twitter-heath has proven that the phrase malignant buffoon is not an oxymoron.

The measures necessary for restoration of national equilibrium are many and will be protracted far beyond his removal. One such measure must be the removal of those in Congress who, unlike the sycophantic mediocrities who cosset him in the White House, will not disappear “magically,” as Eric Trump said the coronavirus would. Voters must dispatch his congressional enablers, especially the senators who still gambol around his ankles with a canine hunger for petting.

There is not one member of the Trump Cult who doesn't know the kool-aid is poison. They drink it anyway, and then claim it's a fine vintage wine. I'd prefer that they just come out and say the real reason they support Trump. It would save a ton of time and energy, and we already know the answer.

Trump marries the incurious philistinism of George W Bush, the paranoid delusion of Nixon, the imperial posturing of Benito Mussolini and the malevolence of Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus into one package.

I distinctly remember feeling the country began to lose it's way the day after Bill Clinton was elected. I voted for George H.W. Bush but in retrospect the original carnival barker, Ross Perot was spot on about the deficit (IMO) and that's who I would vote for given the chance again.
GWB wanted to bring moral decency back to the office , and was and is a decent man but fate and neoconservativism overshadowed that.
Like GWB, Obama went too far with his agenda using federal agencies to circumvent Congress in making his own laws , WOTUS rule, e.g., and in militarization of the EPA.
Which brings us to Trump.

Yet dems had Martin O'Malley, a fine , youngish candidate with a spotless record . Once again looking back, he was the best in the entire original field, Republican and Democratic.
Trump is not the problem, he's a symptom of what's been going on for quite a while now.

And the alternative is a senile has-been.

Right-wingers couldn't care less about George Will or anything he has to say.

As far as they're concerned, he's just another establishment Republican RINO whose opinion counts for nothing.

By their way of thinking, if any Republican's nose isn't all the way up Trump's ass, they might as well be a Democrat.
 
Will is a highly respected righty who has been the thinker and chronicler of righty politics for decades. He is educated, informed, and current on politics. Unlike Trump, Will's opinions should be greeted with respect. Many of the top righty thinkers have fled from Trump and the disaster that he is. Trump retains the stupid and crooked.

Nope. I have never had an issue without thoughtful conservatives, even when I disagreed with them. Respectful discourse is the foundation of our democracy. The Trump cult does not want thoughtful discourse. In fact, they are incapable of it. Will has always been one of my favorite writers. He's eloquent, and a huge baseball fan to boot. I can't want until we can get rid of the cult and go back to those days of thoughtful discourse. Most of the posters here who support Trump are not capable. They will be summarily dismissed from the arena of political discussion. America will put them on ignore.

Will is the Repubs historian and writer of note. He has been an esteemed righty who the left disagreed with but admired his writing and the background work he did. He sure saw what a threat to the American experiment Trump is. Some of the smartest Repubs have left the party with Trump. They will return if the party can be reconstituted assuming it exists when he is done with his destruction. The party is now as small and nasty as Trump is.
