The American Civil Liberties Union is an orginization that fights for the protection of our CIVIL LIBERTIES AND OUR CIVIL RIGHTS...

They are largly supported by liberals.

In fact George Bush Sr. attacked M. Dukakis in a debate for being a member...

I am proud to be a member, whats wrong with the ACLU?

the only thing wrong with the ACLU is that they refuse to acknowledge the right to bear arms.
This is my exact problem with them. They refuse to acknowledge the 2d amendment is in the Constitution at all. OR they take the position that with all the other INDIVIDUAL liberties in the BoR this one is a group right. If you get a chance ask an ACLU member what the difference is between the people in the 2d Amendment and the people in the 4th Amendment.

I agree with the above and would add a second reason... they are a bunch of greedy lawyers... how can you NOT hate them?

no laughter this time. The last time it came so completely out of left field that I laughed without effort. This time, not so much.

big time...they flat out refuse to acknowledge the scotus ruling in heller and i forget the other case...they say so on their website or did shortly after the ruling...

also, they are extremely hypocritical when it comes to religion. they constantly attack christianity, but then go all out and defend islam in michigan over their call to prayers...

I cannot help the fact that your realization of the truth the prior time made you laugh. It is not a required or desired response.

Well, crap. I wish I'd seen this earlier. I'd say, "Me too." Instead I'll just say that the ACLU tends to stress only certain rights while ignoring others I find either equally or even more important.

Even if thats the case, they are supporting some rights arnt they?

While not only ignoring, but actively working against, the ones that I find more important.

When there is an occasion that I agree with them I don't hesitate to point out the rarity.

people that murder still love some people, so who cares if they just murdered one person

Are you comparing freedom to murder. Freedom is a good thing, murder is a bad thing... try to understand that and maybe you will become a Liberal.

I still dont see how that gives you the right to own any weapon in existance. The point is that the right to bear arms shall not be abridged "shortened". Common sense reasonable restrictions or assault rifles and other arms is not in contravention of the Amendment, just like common sense reasonable restrictions or the right to free speech are not in contravention of the Constitution. Its not legal to yell fire in a crowded theater or to use words likely to cause a riot.
