This is the prevailing logic, according to what I have been told by Trump-loving wingnut teabaggers:

If a Muslim commits a terrorist act, it reflects poorly on the religion of Islam.

If a black person commits a crime, it says something about people with black skin.

If a Hispanic undocumented worker commits a crime, it speaks directly to the threat of an "invasion of brown people from the south.

If a white guy commits an act of terrorism, he is a lone wolf, a mentally disturbed individual. Most of the time, we are not even supposed to conflate white Christians and terrorism. It is strictly verboten!

Smollet's case damaged the DNC and the left because it was a culmination of intersectionality and the current rhetoric actually being used. The fact that the media bought it shows where their heads are firmly planted.
