In praise of our federal workers

I'd like to thank our federal workforce for taking care of vets, helping prevent & manage wildfires, maintaining our national parks, keeping air travel safe, ensuring food safety and dozens of other things they do to improve our lives.

While we all agree that there is waste that needs to be cut, the glee that this admin has shown in firing people, and the rhetoric from MAGA in general about how all of these people are freeloaders, "crooked" & lazy, is disgusting.

There is already a process for firing probationary employees who are substandard, lazy, or incompetent.

The social security workers, the NOAA scientists, the USDA engineers, the Forest Service biologists, the National Park Service rangers I have interfaced with seem to have all been conscientious professionals.

As a retired federal worker, I Thank You!

Maybe it would help if we all wrote the same thing on our personal social media and/or got our personal communities to share it.

Reichwingers always go for and fall for the easy low-hanging fruit. So easy to sit back and feel smug that the idiot you voted for is firing good, decent, high performing workers just because they're with the govt. and Fox told you that they're all deadweight.

It’s true. Cut them all

It's been hit and miss for me over the years.

For example.

While I was in the Safety shop at SIMA San Diego, I had to take two "engineers" around to various shops in the shipyard to do ventilation tests. Both were maybe... maybe in their early 30's... but I doubt that. Anyway, I called it "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure." These two "engineers" were idiots. I got to watch their dumbfuckery for a week. As a First Class PO, I did enjoy not having to do anything other than drag them from shop to shop or stand on the roof of some building in the sunshine on a nice day while they did their stupidity in front of me.

Or calling up some "engineer" on a project to ask why they wanted a particular, grossly expensive, material used for a part only to be told, "Well, I had to put a spec (specification) on it..."

And there was going aboard some ship and the crew were completely incompetent to do even basic repairs or as my part of the Navy called it, "Nuke" your way through a problem. Sometimes the stupidity was jaw dropping.

I've sat through what is now called DEI classes repeatedly. Hilarity ensues when you bring up stuff that makes the "instructor" look utterly stupid. Not hard to do most of the time.

Three million federal employees, bound to be some that are subpar, just like in any job.

My family had lots of government employees, all of them were highly educated and conscientious. My Pop and Stepmother worked for the Russian language service at VOA; my brother worked at NASA Jet Propulsion Lab; my aunt worked at Canadian Broadcasting Corporation; my mother did a stint at Department of Health and Human Services; my college girlfriend worked at US Geological Survey; my friend from high school works at the National Archives; and a good friend from college works at Lawrence Livermore National Labs.

Because I have extensive experience actually knowing public employees, I was impervious to the right-wing bullshit stereotypes about government employees being lazy and incompetent.

What a fucking whiny ass bitch you are. Tell us why we need the dept of transportation, the national highway and safety administration AND the national transportation and safety board? You retarded donut

So, no air traffic controllers? No food safety? No benefits for veterans?
You don't think air traffic control could happen without the federal gobblement? Food safety? Benefits for veterans is a different thing

I never said the gobblement shouldn't to ANYTHING, but they definitely do too much. Eliminate 90% of it and you wouldn't know a difference.

You said "cut them all." Right here on this thread.
