Obama Leads Romney 52-45 In New Reason-Rupe Poll; In Three-Way Race Obama Leads Romney 49-42, Johnson Gets 6 Percent

While it is only a small gain, it is nonetheless a gain, and my prediction is that the more Johnson tours universities the more college students are going to support him and the more coverage he will get in the news. It won't be enough to win but it will probably be enough to damage Romney's chances of a win. SO, here's my advice to all you Romney supporters, VOTE FOR JOHNSON! A vote for Mitt is becoming more and more just a wasted vote. He chances of winning are becoming slimmer and slimmer. If you join the 6 or 8% of us who already say we're voting for Johnson, together we can defeat Obama and you will get a small government fiscally conservative President with a proven track record of lower taxes and cutting spending. Those of us that are going to vote for Johnson will NEVER vote for Mitt or Obama. WE are not voting for ANYONE that will reauthorize the Patriot Act, or NDAA. We are not going to vote for anyone that chooses to use the Military without a direct threat to the US, we are not going to vote for someone that cannot see that the war on drugs is as futile as prohibition was in the 20's and 30's. In short we are not jumping ship to vote for the same old guy with a different face, or the same face for that matter. Be Libertarian with us just one election. We will not only get rid of Obama but we will change the way the white house is run and how the president views legislation. LIVE FREE!

If the President stays this far ahead, I will seriously consider voting for GJ.

Is this supposed to be a joke?
Not a joke at all. I expect that by the last week in October Johnson will poll in low double digits. That will more than likely hurt Mitt more than Obama. If Republican's can get off their socially conservative high horse, and vote for someone that absolutely positively will veto ANY tax increase, and ANY spending increase and who will absolutely work to reduce the size of the government payroll they will get a far better president than they will from Obama. Johnson is slowly but steadily picking up steam. Not enough to win, but enough to spoil.

How will stealing Romney votes "defeat Obama"?
It won't. Unless Romney supporters come over to Johnson, Romney is going to lose. But if the 42%, in the 3 way race vote for Johnson instead, then Obama will lose. They won't have wasted their votes.

:party:HOORAY FOR GARY JOHNSON SUPPORTERS REELECTING OBAMA!:cheer:
The same can be said for Romney voters Dixie. It will be easier to convince Republicans to vote for a fiscally conservative small government libertarian than it will be to convince libertarians to vote for a Republican that was never conservative a day in his life before he ran for office THIS TIME. Romney is as wasted a vote as Johnson is. Just more people will be wasting their vote.

I agree with all that in theory, but states are going to have to pick up the slack. There would be a long lag period during which a lot of people would suffer under depression-level conditions, before we figure out how to solve major waves of poverty and crime.

Also, what is the libertarian stance on out-sourcing or American companies moving plants and facilities to cheaper labor markets? I would guess that libertarians would be hands off.

The belief being that when things get bad enough, we would all stop buying foreign-made products. 'Buy American' would become like a new abolition movement. People would realize that poverty is caused by the gutting of American mid-level jobs in manufacturing. One factory town after another goes bust.

Paying skilled wages for unskilled labor is stupid. Add in the fact that automation, not outsourcing, has replaced much of the former factory mans work, and you can see why there aren't as many manufacturing jobs for large companies as before. What would take hours on a Bridgeport (plus years of experience), I can do in 1/4 the time with a CNC.

That isn't to say there aren't plenty of jobs in the industry. I drive by, oh, probably 100 signs looking for skilled workers every day. The fact that the skills aren't there (as opposed to other countries) is the problem.

You seem to miss the point, we're voting johnson because we hate both your cadidates, not because we hate one or the other.

No, he knows and understands that fully. Soc is also a dedicated Libertarian (like all the mods).

Then it's an easier bit, Johnson can't win. If we want a three party system, need to adopt the german method of parties getting seats by votes collected rather than majority of the area. That would have it own problems but until then a third party won't get much momentum.
