Incumbent Protection In California

Is there any compilation of the total amount of votes for Republicans or Democrats? Was that significantly different than the last election?

I was looking through the Chronicle's election website but I didn't see anything that broke down the votes that way.

not worried about it. Texas gets 4 more seats in the house for next election and with as many republicans as we have, we can easily remove eddie bernice johnson and sheila jackson lee by redistricting. we'll provide a great counter balance to Libifornia

California should redistrict two tits-for-tat. For every unfair seat you guys draw, they should draw two. There shouldn't be elected Republicans in the state if you guys try to pull off another 2004. Fight evil with a bullet to their head.

you have to have grown in population to get more seats. Cali did not. sorry, but the tax rates there probably had alot to do with it.

It is crucial that the federal government not bail out California.......not only would it trigger a firestorm of federal spending that we cannot afford, but it's akin to enabling a drug addict or alcoholic......until they come to the realization that they want to change nothing you do for them will be in their best interests......

High home prices probably had more to do with it than their average tax rates compared to other states.

Texas grew because of illegal immigrants. And you rednecks get to cast their votes.

I can't wait until they all have children and in 20 years turn Texas into a shiny liberal utopia. Karma is sweet.

Besides, California's system of drawing all safe seats actually favors the Republicans. If they just drew random seats and didn't carve out any specifically for the Republicans the Republicans would probably lose almost all of theirs, because it would be closer to a winner take all system. Things are the way the are in California specifically because they need a 2/3 majority to redistricts, and therefore the Republicans essentially have veto power over any proposed plan. To "balance out" California you'd need to draw more Democratic districts.

They should get me to redistrict.

"Alright, here's the first half of the district, a borough of San Fransisco, here's a little strip that follows a highway, contains no residents, and stretches for a hundred miles, and here's the second half, in orange county."
