This weekend I drove to my mothers house to finish cleaning it out, it's for sale because she moved to a nursing home, she has advanced Alzheimer's disease.
I picked up a lot of new furniture Thad had once belonged to my grandparents and great-grandparents. We got rid of some of our old furniture and replaced it with the antiques.
My grandfather was from Montgomery, Alabama. I put up an old mirror and table that my great-grandfather bought from Jefferson David when he moved out of Montgomery in a bit of a hurry. Well tonight I came home to my sons good friend sitting at that table and his black complexion reflecting in that mirror at me, and I smiled. I may never get that image out of my mind!
