Interesting Video from 1948...Mmmmm

America does not have the worlds highest standard of living. In GDP per capita terms, we are exceeded by a few small countries, and by more holistic measures we are exceeded by numerous socialist countries.

said countries that are about the size of rhode island with 5 million people. much easier to manage than in our bloated country.

do you really think the ad should have said:

"one of the highest" standards of living....would that make you feel better?

UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, 1948; just like the title says. :palm:

said countries that are about the size of rhode island with 5 million people. much easier to manage than in our bloated country.

In 1969 Rupert Murdoch relaunched the Sun newspaper as a tit-filled tabloid newspaper. Its main competitor was the Daily Mirror which had, for that time a healthy circulation of over 4 million (maybe 5 - memory fails). The Sun didn't even sell 1 million.
A huge poster campaign was launched which had, in huge red figures '3,000,000' and the message something like 'Who will get there first?'
So the US is rich but is the growth positive or negative, not in actual terms but in comparison with other economies? Who will get to '3 million' first?
America had better get its act together fast. That means, as far as I can see, getting behind Obama - not to follow but to push.
That is one race you need to lose! Do you want to be a Mirror and keep looking at things that might have been or a Sun and create energy and light for the future of mankind?

The population size doesn't make much of a differnce. More people to manage, more people to manage them with. It's fallacious to say that size makes a difference, as it completely ignores economy of scale, which actually says that it should be EASIER to run with increasing size.

It's the proportions that count. And there are many relatively high-population countries with a higher holistic standard of living than ours.

The Sun creates energy and light for the future of mankind? I'm sorry, this analogy is surreal. The planet would be better if if The Sun and The Mirror were banned and Rupert Murdoch hung.

That is why I used the indefinite article.

as long as I am comfortable I don't care about you or anyone else in the world. I would rather self destruct out of spite.

YEAH; we might go the way of England, a country of used-to-be's. :palm:

nice fairy tale

however, you are correct that 'ism's do not really work

neither capitalism nor socialism work, however, a hybrid of the two seems to be doing better

also, tell this to people who have lost their jobs to workers of of the nation
