Iran has halted oil tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz and demanded that Israel cease its attacks on Lebanon as Donald Trump's crumbling truce faced backlash.

Iran's semi-official Fars news agency said that two tankers were allowed to pass through the Strait this morning as the two-week ceasefire with the US took effect.

Not true. Iran has made threats to attack shipping transiting the strait. They can't stop the ships from trying if they want, and it's likely for every 10 to 20 ships that try maybe--MAYBE--one will get attacked. The problem is shipping companies and insurers don't want to take the risk. Iran has stopped nothing, shipping companies and insurers have.

Anyway, a tanker goes through the Strait about 20 times a year. If they have a one in twenty chance of being hit each time, that gives them about a two thirds chance of being destroyed every year. There are only so many tankers in the world, and it takes time to replace them.

But insurance companies think they have a much higher chance of being destroyed.
