Is China seeking to colonize Africa?

China has given money to countries with no strings attached. That is not what we do. What it means long term is unknown. But they are establishing friendly relations with countries who may have large market value in the future. We will be dealt out after awhile.

They have given very little from what I can find w/ no string attached..........

Most often it is loans that come w/ Chinese companies & Chinese workers...

Chinese drive a hard bargain & some will prosper, some will not.

Everyone can see what happened w/ the port in Sri Lanka.. Should have never been built, that is the most obvious & glaring part of this fiasco..

Now China owns it & 15,000 ac of surrounding land for 99 years..

When the Britis did it to them in HK it was called colonization......... :|

Very good insight. The Chinese will own Africa is they do not watch themselves.

lol, highly unlikely......

China has lots of ppl & is dealing lots of places to put them...... In Lao & Cambodia there are places where the locals have been pushed out, casino cities where they can work but not gamble & can no longer afford to have their own shops etc.

100's of thousands of Chinese tourist are brought there, to stay in Chinese hotels, eat @ Chinese restaurants, gamble in Chinese owned casinos & shop in Chinese owned tourist shops leaving locals feeling like foreigners in their own country, their own town. The costs have gone up 5 fold in a few years & the westerners that came for cheap prices & great surf/attractions have been priced out & moved on..... HAPPY HAPPY

The Left seem extremely reticent about China's policies in Africa. If it were the UK doing it they'd be instantly labelled as imperialists and racists, seems to me to be little different to the way Cecil Rhodes operated back in the days of the British Empire.

My friend Martin was in Sihanoukville recently and said the whole place is dominated by Chinese built casinos. Property prices have gone through the roof and the beaches have turned into rat infested eyesores. Even had a half built one collapse recently killing 28 people, did you hear about that in the US media?

Excellent point....

The Chinese are calling it globalizing, not colonizing but in case after case it seems many "leaders" are setting their country up for a rude debt wake-up call one day when they can't make their payments...

These leader are often cutting unwise deals(I wonder who they are listening to for advice & other bids) & the Chinese negotiators are taking advantage of their lack of options..

When the deals these questionable leaders make go bad, China steps in & takes assets, land leases etc Which is kinda reminiscent of US negotiations done by Native American chiefs & the various US treaty reps.......

It isn't just the countries of Africa but SEAsia, Central Asia & Europe that are getting these hard bargain/win win deals....

Maybe win win is the name of one of the negotiators & having a different meaning than in English??? :dunno: :whome:

China is committing acts of business in many countries that they hope will ensure their economic success in the future. They are being smart. America has interfered in the governments of many countries and overthrew their leaders to ensure access. We are still paying for what we did in Iran in the 1950s. We did it in Cuba too. We established our grasping of resources and markets using our army. China is opening markets with money, not guns.

Yes, but the difference is we did those evil things for good, china is doing them for bad. See the difference??

Thanks for you opinion/insight.......hats-off-salute-smiley-emoticon.gif

I don't believe that "everything" China is doing is benevolent..

It seems that the more I learn about these deals, the less benevolence seems to be a factor...

The premise is mutual benefit but they often drive a hard bargain & the citizens have no say up front & some projects have been put on hold or squashed when they have. (Unfortunately they are often left still holding the bag, for costs=payments due etc)......

That is often a huge burden on a poor country, & as seen in Sri Lanka ( How China Got Sri Lanka to Cough Up a Port) can lead to loss of property through lease or setting aside land disputes w/ china as payment..........

More & more ppl are starting to believe it->China’s Debt-Trap Diplomacy
