Is Rugby more exciting than American football?

Controversial, yes. Worth getting banned over? I don't know.

I have to suggest this may be a slight overreaction.

It has the potential to be MUCH more exciting than American football. It is, even on a slow day, much faster than the American game, It only takes 80 minutes plus half time break as opposed to the American game which vies with cricket for the length of a game.
No blocking means the game seldom stops and there are no meetings held mid pitch to discuss how to throw the next ball or who looks nicest in the tight trousers or whose poor little head might get hurt if they dare to remove their protective helmets.
There are several variants, Union, League, Tens and Sevens. The latter being one of the fastest and most open games played on pitches anywhere. The US participates in the World Sevens competition and whilst seldom, if ever, taking anything home apart from bloodied noses and bruised self esteem, they do play quite well.
We already have our tickets for the most famous Sevens comp which is held here in HK on the last Friday, Saturday and Sunday of March. Monday is usually taken as a holiday by those with the stamina to see out the three days.

Any sport is exciting to the fans of the sport. And many sports fans believe their sport of choice is more exciting than others. That's usually why they become fans. I like to watch a good Rugby match, it seems to be much more brutal at times, like American football without pads. I don't know if more blood and lost teeth make for more excitement... Maybe it's just because I have grown up watching and playing football, and I am a fan, but I like American football better.

Inexplicably, Rugby is boring to watch fun to play.

I beg to disagree. If you are right at field level, Rugby is very exciting to watch. I am amazed at the sheer strength in their lower bodies. You don't have to be particularily tall to play. Most of the players I watch are very stout and have incredible strength in their legs.

Hmmm....you do make a good point. American football does emphasise two of the worst traits of American culture. Violence punctuated by committee meetings.

Of course there are other benefits to the game:-

Unfortunately I have no idea how to post photos on here. I did it once but ... well, you know... computers - matchboxes... all the same. Incomprehensible!

You need to go to a picture, right click and then left click on Copy Link Location. Then left click on the yellow postcard icon which is fifth in from the right above you, remove the http:// and paste the picture link instead.

Copy Link Location??? Easier said than done. Have 'copy' but that doesn't do it. Ah well, I can live without it. Cheers anyway.

Rugby union, fun to play.
Sevens, mega fun to play and great to watch, particularly during tournaments.

Rugby league, great fun to watch.
Kind of boring to play.
Requires players to be reebok fit, rather than Rugby fit!

I don't suppose many people have played both. Rugby Union seems to me more intelligent and certainly faster, while League has avoided the daft development of the line-out which has encouraged the use of overgrown and peculiar persons. I used to be extremely fast, but nowadays I'd be squashed by these monsters - it is going the way of netball.

Scottish rules was my preferred.
Playing or spectating.
League is no fun to play and it appears that many super league players are just bulking up for weight advantage.
Much like the NFL players have.
It's not good for their health nor for the game as a whole.

I still get out on the pitch but these days as a ref.
Too slow in my old age!!
It is the greatest game, I love it!
