“They spend tens of billions … on campaign contributions … to buy politicians who will do their bidding. They spend billions more on lobbying firms to influence governmental decisions” at every level. And “to a significant degree”, the oligarchs “own” the media. That is why our prominent pundits “rarely raise issues that will undermine the privileged positions of their employers” and “there is little public discussion about the power of corporate America and how oligarchs wield that power to benefit their interests at the expense of working families”.

In whose dictionary is Senator Sanders an oligarch?

Multi-millionaire means "middle class" in todays money.
I'm sure that this forum is littered with "multi-millionaires."

Oligarchs are billionaires.

I truly love Bernie, but the poor guy looks like he owns maybe three suits!

“But why stop at one year?” he now asks. After all, the 1950s were economic boom times in America – and under a Republican president, Dwight Eisenhower, “the top tax rate for the wealthiest Americans was around 92%. America thrived. Unions were strong. Working-class Americans could afford to support themselves and buy homes on a single income.” And the richest 20% controlled a measly (by current standards) 42.8% of the wealth.

Every dictionary:

ol·i·garch
[ˈäləˌɡärk]
NOUN
a ruler in an oligarchy.
(especially in Russia) a very rich business leader with a great deal of political influence.

A quick internet search reveals a Forbes article that Bernie Sanders is worth 2.5 million dollars.

2.5 million. He's probably one of the LEAST wealthy people in the US Senate.
If you watch the Mecum auctions on TV, you see people who look like backwater bubbas
spending more than that on an old classic car.

Doesn't change what I said...

I've been a fan of Bernie for some time now. I wasn't happy with his going along with the Covid narrative, but I did note with a bit of relief that at least he didn't mandate vaccines for kids in public schools. And while I'm dissapointed that he's supported the war effort in Ukraine, he did at least try to head it off entirely:

I'm technically a millionaire. I'm 33 and my 401k is worth about a million. My net worth is probably close to 1.2 million, if you count my house.

Bernie Sanders is two hundred years old and his net worth is hardly double mine.

So? I'm probably worth more than Sanders is, but I don't have his political clout.

Was it ever your goal to be a major political player?
Is that primarily what you do?
Did you devote your life to getting yourself in that position?

I don't have Bernie's political clout either,
partly because despite my very real effort in the advocacy of certain things,
I never aspired to run for anything outside of union office.

No, I never did. My thing in life has been to build and make stuff. It's what I'm really, really good at. Plan the work, organize the workers, schedule the production, get the materials, that sort of thing.
