James A. Baker III - "The Man Who Ran Washington"

Since this board is full of political junkies and some history buffs thought I'd recommend this new book about Baker. For a guy who was never President he amassed a lot of power, helped Reagan and Bush win the Presidency, was Sec of State when the Soviet Union collapsed and helped run the Florida recount for the Bush team in 2000 among many others. Was a conservative but not an ideologue and knew how to get deals done. Interesting to read he was not supportive of going into Iraq in 2003 based on his experience in the first Iraq War.

He's definitely more old school in that he would fight to win but would cut deals and work across the isle. Good read for those so inclined.
