Japanese car giant moves manufacturing out of US in tariff twist

Let It Burn!

President Donald Trump's tariffs just cost America a chunk of Canadian business. Subaru, which sold 68,043 cars in Canada in 2024, is reshuffling its supply chain in response to escalating car trade scuffles.

More lost jobs for US auto workers; Thank you Crazy Trump.

Subaru Canada's strategic response

Subaru Canada plans to significantly reduce its imports of U.S.-made vehicles. The proportion of these imports will drop from 26% of sales in 2024 to a mere 10% by the 2026 model year. This decision underscores the financial and logistical challenges posed by the current trade environment, leading to a substantial loss for the U.S. automotive industry.

I've learned something from this thread.

I mistakenly thought Subaru was a Korean company, but it's definitely Japanese.

As for Trump moves causing bad results, that's a given not subject to mistake.

"Japanese car giant?" I went looking for how Subaru rates in terms of sales compared to other manufacturers.
