US layoffs for October surge to two-decade high, Challenger data shows

U.S.-based employers cut more than 150,000 jobs in October, marking the biggest reduction for the month in more than 20 years, a report by Challenger, Gray & Christmas said on Thursday as industries adopt AI-driven changes and intensify cost cuts.

I state this because I misunderstood myself this was the highest job cuts for the month of October in 22 years, not all months (because I was thinking of the GFC).

What's interesting is the month still had overall positive job growth according to ADP for the private sector. That doesn't include gov't jobs though.

Roughly circa 1940 to 1960 and 1865 to 1890. Neither ended in an economic collapse.
