This is huge BTW, there are a large group of (forgive me) simple minded elders who have been watching the likes of CNN and MSNBC for fifty years. They believe whatever the box tells them.
Gradually steer it to pro-MAGA (or libertarian) and that's 5 million votes easy.

The lender who paid for Musk's buyout would disagree with you. Their money is for making more money, and not for Musk's vanity projects.
I doubt anyone will loan Musk money on this. So he would have to sell control over companies that are changing the world, to buy bit players in a dying market... Again, he might do that, but no sane person would do that.

Let's say Musk sells $50 billion in Tesla and/or SpaceX stock, buys these cable channels(CNN is not one of them), and then tries to gradually steer them towards alt right positions. CNBC will almost immediately lose all their viewers, those viewers just want to make money. Preachy science fiction always does poorly, so again, losing all their viewers. I still do not understand why anyone would want to watch a channel just about golf, so I will not comment on that.
But you say there are about a million legacy viewers that will continue to watch MSNBC. Let's say half a million. Gradually steering them towards alt right positions might get half of them there, but half of them will die(they are old), so a quarter of half a million, or about 125k.
Now Musk is sure his companies will go up at least 10 times in value, if not a thousand times, so let's use the number $500 billion in lost opportunities.
So that is buying votes at $4 million a vote. Maybe I am wrong on one number or another, but even if it is ten times cheaper, that is $400k a vote.
And remember, people tend to rebel against having their votes blatantly bought. That might be $500 billion in opportunity losses, and losses in votes.
The banks have to make their loan write downs public. If you followed the financial news, you would know all this.

Then again I also though Musk claiming he was going to buy Twitter was just trolling. The board of Twitter laughed, and reassured Musk he would have major losses on the deal. He first sued them for turning down the offer, saying he would forgo due diligence to force the deal. Then, he sued them for accepting the deal, saying that the due diligence he refused was crucial. It was absolutely insane.
There is nothing to be gained by talking with known liars.

It really is showing how out of touch the alt right is from reality.
And they are very tight with Musk....there is almost certainly a deal that they will not sell the debt....Musk allowing people he did not approve and probably does not trust would be dumb.
