Mr. Cena apologized for a statement he made in an interview with the Taiwanese broadcaster TVBS. In it, he told the reporter in Mandarin, “Taiwan is the first country that can watch” the film.

“I made a mistake,” Mr. Cena said in his apology video. “Now I have to say one thing which is very, very, very important: I love and respect China and Chinese people.”

He continued: “I’m very sorry for my mistakes. Sorry. Sorry. I’m really sorry. You have to understand that I love and respect China and Chinese people.”

Mr. Cena has studied Mandarin for years and regularly posts on Weibo, but many of his Chinese fans were not quick to forgive.

Find out how much he’s being paid. Everyone has a price and it appears the Cena’s pay on “Fast and Furious 9” is enough for him to happily grovel.

F9 earned $135.6 million in China alone this weekend, including $59 million on Friday (including $9.17 million in midnight previews) and $48 million on Saturday. That’s the first $100 million-plus opening for a Hollywood flick in China since Avengers: Endgame in April of 2019. It was double Godzilla Vs. Kong’s $69 million launch two months ago, although that film’s strong $188 million finish shows that the MonsterVerse remains a “hot in China” Hollywood franchise even amid copious local blockbusters.

Ahhh, an anti-capitalist strategy. Attacking businesses for making a profit off our enemies. Cut off our nose to spite our face since all of that profit from China comes back to the US...unless some idiot stops it.

Marketing movies and other entertainment isn't the same as Nike having its factories in Vietnam and China where money is spent in China. Most movies are made in the US and foreign-marketing is just extra profit.
