John Elway to Fox News: I’m Republican because ‘I don’t believe in safety nets’

Denver Broncos executive vice president of football operations John Elway revealed on Sunday that he was a Republican because he doesn’t “believe in safety nets” — even though he admitted they were necessary.

Congrats to the Seahawks!

its all about loving thy self more than others.

Its the republican way.

You lap up lies and deny facts just to stay a republican in this country,

Its a commitment to lies and stupidity

This is why it is impossible to have a reasonable debate with you. You can't do it honestly. I don't know anyone who says that we shouldn't help our fellow man. The question is what is the most moral, effective way to do it. You believe in statism and government control. I believe in free will and freedom.

Most people do believe in helping our fellow man, even most Republicans I know... but I do not agree that its everyone.

Did I say everyone believes in helping others? I did not. I said I do not know anyone who says that we shouldn't help. There is a difference.

The question as I said, isn't so much whether we should or shouldn't, but whether we should use the force of government to do so.

For example, what if someone doesn't want to help the poor? Should they be forced against their will?

No constitutional basis for them but that water went over the dam long ago and isnt coning back. However that still affords us to do the constitutional thing in the present and future.

See, people like evince and jarod are incapable of doing anything without government consent. They are "free" within the parameters the government has set. Barack Obama loves sheeple like this. These idiots don't realize that government is here to protect our rights, not protect us from our rights.

Who woulnt like having their votes bought ? That is the long and short of it. They really dont care about policy. So why not sell yourself as high as you can ?
This is the result of having a government so imbued with cirruption. Throw the bums out ALL the bums.

Yes they aren't very freedomy are they

How do you not believe in safety nets?

I can see saying something like you don't believe in people taking advantage of safety nets, or in the way they're currently structured, or in the waste associated w/ some of them...but to not believe in safety nets at all?

Of course, we're talking about someone who was a millionaire at 21, so...

They don't. It's just the league commission that has non-profit status. The 32 individual teams all have to pay their taxes, including John "Don't Draft Me" Elway.

Sorry, you are right. Although because they are privately owned we don't know how much if any they pay!

We probably give them all kinds of deductions and pay for their stadiums!

If you believe in playing by the rules, and Elway was arguably in favor of that, the rules do not allow for it. And if you are Christian you know whose job that is (and its not your Uncle Sam).

Caring for the poor has gotten beyond the means of the charities. The charities, including the Catholic Church have appealed to the government for help.

How do you get Christians to step up and give more?

By asking them to be Christians? Seriously, we live in a world where the Mafia and the Columbian cartels consider themselves to be Catholic, even though every single one of them is going to burn in hell. It's not surprising to hear that American churchgoers are stingy.

Make more of them. More Christians doing what they're supposed to (and I don't for one minute claim that all do) = less need for the government to step in. It's a pie in the sky line of thinking but I still contend that life would be better for all if the Bible (NT) was followed perfectly by all.
