China's Chery to build small cars for Chrysler to sell worldwide

DETROIT - DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group and China's Chery Automobile Co. have reached an agreement for the Chinese manufacturer to build small cars to be sold worldwide.

The letter of intent is subject to approval of Chrysler's supervisory board, which meets next month, said Chrysler spokesman Jason Vines.

The cars, to be designed jointly by Chery and Chrysler with Chrysler taking the lead, would be sold as a Chrysler Group brand, either Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge, Vines said. Chery will build tiny cars known in the industry as "B-cars," but it also may build something larger for Chrysler, he said.

Decline of the USA or Decline of Detroit

The US Car Industry is more a Detroit phenomenom than a USA problem....


Toyota Motors is building plants all through the USA and will keep American people employed as they build comfortable, reliable cars for us... Most parts will be made in India, Mexico, and China...

Detroit will continue to deteriorate into a dirty toilet bowl that it already almost is... Ford pensions will never be paid... Toyotas will continue to be great cars and trucks...

Tata Motors is an up and coming company in India, probably more of a threat than the Chinese co. that you mentioned...

Most of these companies developing production abroad are actually for the people abroad... There is about a 2 Billion person market in those countries, so it's probably a good business to get into in China or India... The only way GM will survive or "old" car companies, is by doing well in Asia... GM has a chance, Ford is already dead in my book...
