Because America is fundamentally a conservative country. Thus the more conservative candidates should generally win over the more liberal candidates in an election.
When you have recent polls that say 40% of Americans consider themselves Conservatives and only 20% call themselves Liberals...Well you do the math.
I think the Tea Party has actually been a great help to the political process. They have challenged alot of the longstanding norms... all the backroom deals done by both parties....
