The king of conservative "tort reform" and infamous crier of crocodile tears about out-of-control lawsuits, Robert Bork, sues Yale University because he fell on his fat ass while giving a speech at the university.

He's requesting actual damages for a million bucks, plus punitive damages to be determined in a trial by jury.

These people believe, in their heart of hearts, that there are two sets of rules. So when they cry about lawsuits and want tort reform, they mean it.

But they would never imagine that it should or would apply to them. It's for the "lower classes". Which is, all the rest of us.

Bingo! Spot on.

Little Ricky Santorum filed a massive civil lawsuit a few years back too.

But, a million dollars plus punative damages for falling on your ass? I don't ever want to hear Bork blather on about tort reform.

absolutely, tort reform is only for the little people and their frivilous lawsuits. Borkeys is a big important law suit.

Um hmmm, sort of like that judge in DC who's suing to ruin the drycleaners over a pair of pants.

Unbelievable.

I hope someone is keeping track of all these "haves" frivilous lawsuits somewhere.
Will be good ammo in the future.

While Cons love to trot out the example of that little girl John Edwards represented, suing the pool manufacturer, as an example of a clogged and out of control civil justice system, the fact is that the vast, overwhelming majority of lawsuits in civil courts are brought by businesses and corporations. Business suing other businesses, corporations suing business, businesses suing the contractors, etc.

Yep and by the worst case estimate I have seen medical malpractice lawsuits are just 1-2 % of our healthcare cost.
We could cut out a lot of that by banning the lets sue em lawyer commercials.
does anyone remember when it was illegal for Lawyers to run those types of ads ?
when I lived in Tampa my son had an accident, to the best of my recollection no less that 30 laywers contacted us to try and get us to sue....
Lets work on the lawyer glut, perhaps charge them more interest on their student loans till their number drops a bit.
