Kiosks Will Create Mass Layoffs

Remember when the MAGA morons claimed that $15/hour minimum wage for fast food workers would cost jobs? Remember when they warned that corporations are going to fight back with kiosks that will cost people their jobs?

Remember when I told them that no kiosk will ever make a sandwich, or hand it to the customer?

It appears that kiosks actually create jobs due to the volume of business that is now being created. The kiosks actually create more upsell items because customers must get past the prompt for fries/shakes etc. during the ordering process. Something that an employee might not bother with because there is a long line waiting to be served.

Sorry to burst your bubble you MAGA fools. Mickey D's is hiring, not firing. Of course, kiosks still have a lot of bugs to be worked out, but it will be a long time before a machine makes burgers to order.

Today, instead of replacing workers, companies deploy kiosks to transfer labor to other tasks like handing off pickup orders, help increase sales, easily adjust prices and speed up service. (Many chains, including Subway, Chick-fil-A and Starbucks, don’t use them much or at all.)

Kiosks “guarantee that the upsell opportunities” like a milkshake or fries are suggested to customers when they order, Shake Shack CEO Robert Lynch said on an earnings call last month. “Sometimes that is not always a priority for employees when you’ve got 40 people in line. You’re trying to get through it as quick as possible.” Kiosks also shift employees from behind the cash register to maintaining the dining area, delivering food to customers or working in the kitchen, he said.

It did, too. Now fast food chains are either closing or cutting back on staff.
Remember when they warned that corporations are going to fight back with kiosk that will cost people their jobs?
It did. No more hiring cashiers.

Kiosks don't make a sandwich, but they do put cashiers out of business.

An no cashiers to hire!

Both. Depends on the restaurant and it's location. Some are closing entirely.

Kiosks replace cashiers, not cooks.

I have not been inside a McD's in years, and certainly wont now that they are removing all of the self serve soda.

Taco Bell is too expensive for you? Wow, that is harsh.

Have you thought about getting more education to get a better life? How old are you?
No. I feel like a chump paying that as much as they demand for food that is as bad as TB is now. So I refuse.

I go to various McDonald’s maybe once a month. They all have kiosks. Never had a problem.
I haven't eaten fast food in decades, so I'm not familiar. There is a kiosk in the supermarket for loading digital coupons onto my store chain card, and it's handy.

From the article:

And in some cases, kiosks have even been a flop. Bowling ally chain Bowlero added kiosks in lanes for customers to order food and drinks, but they went unused because staff and customers weren’t fully trained on using them.

“The unintended consequences have surprised a lot of people,” Hottovy said.

Even some of the benefits of kiosks touted by chains — they upsell customers by suggesting menu items and speed up orders — don’t always play out. A recent study from Temple University researchers found that, when a line forms behind customers using kiosks, they experience more stress when placing their orders and purchase less food. And some customers take longer to order tapping around on kiosks and paying than they do telling a cashier they’d like to order a burger and fries. Not to mention the kiosks can malfunction or break down.
