Tesla Motors pays back Government loan EARLY!

NINE YEARS early!!

Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk said Thursday that U.S. taxpayers made a substantial profit from a government loan provided to the all-electric carmaker.

“It really feels good to have repaid the U.S. taxpayer,” he told Bloomberg WEST. “That’s really what’s important here, and we didn’t just repay the principle, we actually repaid it with interest and a bonus payment. Ultimately, the U.S. taxpayer actually made a profit of over $12 million on this loan. So, in fact, for this loan at least, people’s tax bill actually went slightly down.”

Musk noted Tesla was “attacked a lot in certain quarters” for being awarded the $465 million loan from the U.S. Energy Department in 2010. Conservatives like presidential candidate Mitt Romney, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Fox Business host Lou Dobbs described the company as “losers.”

“I think it actually matters to some consumers out there whether a company does have a government debt,” Musk said. “Being able to say we’ve fully repaid that debt with interest I think is helpful to some number of people out there.”

Tesla announced Wednesday it had completely paid off the loan nine years earlier than required.

What do you think you are proving?

That is a horrible return. A meager 2.5%. Happy days it will pay for Obamacare

:rofl2:

Also what do you think people were wrong about?

Additionally why couldn't Tesla get private capital? Was Big Oil preventing them getting loans from Wells Fargo?

Yeah, I'm not familiar with the argument that was being made by the Kool-Aid guzzling righties either. Was it that Tesla wouldn't succeed? Or that Tesla could never pay it's loan back? Or that no companies that received loans from the government in the stimulus would be able to pay them back?

Or that some of us don't believe taxpayer money should ever be put at risk for private business. Let them raise private capital.

It is funny watching lefties like Zappa talk out of both sides of his grill with regards to corporate welfare. He doesn't oppose it. He just wants it to go to his preferred projects. I oppose it on all grounds.

And yet you have said nary a word about the corporate welfare paid to Big Oil that goes on in this country right now.

There goes your nonsensical claim you oppose it on ALL grounds.

Ask ILA and RacistX. They're the ones who pray for the country's failure every waking moment.

Instead of trying to fit a square peg in a round whole with solar and windmills; funding development of already proven and abundant natural gas for transportation would have been a much better investment.

I am for any and all sources of energy that are most cost effective for US consumers. I just oppose the federal gobblement being in the "investing" business. It is nothing but crony capitalism/corporate welfare and the US taxpayer and consumer ends up on the short end of the stick

I don't mind if there is reasonable expectation of moderate return!
A moon cheese importer would have as good a prospect as tesla selling the snob mobile outside of turbo-lib Hollywood

I agree....they need to manufacture an everyman version in the $25-35k level.

What part of "I oppose all corporate welfare" don't you understand? Do I have to specifically list every single company getting government subsidies? You are being nonsensical now that your bogus thread has blown up in your face. Carry on bitch
